About The Blog

I created this blog about a year ago, with the intention of using it as a space for me to share my experiences as I worked towards learning more about my Chinese heritage while still embracing my American life (see the post A Helpful Introduction for more detail). The idea was that the bulk of my posts would be book reviews. I would read books about Chinese culture, and then blog about what I learned. However, I wasn't very motivated, and after a year, all I had to show for my plans was a single post outlining my blog purpose.

All of this changed when I visited the University of Maryland. When speaking to the director of the Language House program, she suggested that I open my blog to numerous contributors who also love other cultures. The idea grew on me. I realized that what I really want to do with this blog is to give anyone a chance to share with other people about a culture that they find interesting.

This lead me to expand the purpose for my blog beyond just presenting my discovery of Chinese culture: For anyone who is interested in other cultures, whether they know a lot or a little, to share with and learn from each other.

Today, January 1, 2017, I am opening my blog so that anyone who has respect, affection, or the slightest interest in another culture can post on my blog.  Someone's post could simply be along the lines of "I don't know much about food from India, but I've always wanted to try making one of the recipes, so I did." Or someone may have come across an interesting fact about a different country and want to write about it.

Whatever you want to contribute, I know I will find it fascinating!
